Summer is on our doorstep, and whether it’s going to be hot or cool weather : You can’t go wrong with these 5 lovely perfumes! I have tried all of these myself and I made a list for you with reasons to try these beauties. In random order here are 5 gorgeous and fresh fragrances to scent your summer !
I bought this in Berlin’s Kaufhaus des Westens last year at the instore Chanel boutique and it was love at first sniff. I adore the lavender opening! It was released in 2016 and the nose behind this aromatic fougere is Jaques Polge. I must admit I bought this, charmed by the lovely sales assistant . According to the Chanel site ‘Gabrielle Chanel considered Arthur ‘Boy’ Capel as more than her soul mate: he was her double, her alter ego, the one she considered her other self. Inspired by their love, BOY CHANEL is a composition of timeless elegance.’ Upon spraying it on my skin in Berlin last year, I thought the fragrance was classy and alluring, not spectacular. Fastforward a year, and my bottle is nearly empty! Such a lovely perfume this is ! Boy is a very versatile and sophisticated fresh fragrance that does very well on a hot day as well as in colder seasons. It’s classy and can be worn by men and women. The perfume opens with notes of grapefruit, lavender and lemon; while in the heart we find geranium, orange blossom and rose; base notes are sandalwood, coumarin, heliotrope, vanilla, moss and white musk. The dry down is soft – a bit powdery, though Boy retains its freshness. Perfect for a sunny day and Boy can be worn to a dinner party, a picnic or at the office.
Now this is one solar floral! Full of sunshine, terra-cotta Le Parfum was launched to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Terracotta cosmetic bronze cosmetics line. This edition is from 2014 and the nose behind it is Thierry Waser. This fragrance combines bergamot with tiara flower, ylang, coconut, orange flower, jasmine, musks and vanilla. It’s certainly not Guerlain’s most iconic release . I worship Habit Rouge and Shalimar, these have become perfume classics. However Terracotta Le Parfum is very joyful and is perfect in the summer. I admit that I have worn it during the cold wet dutch winter months too, it’s then when I crave for a beachy summery sunshine feeling- and Terracotta Le perfume delivers just that!
Fleurs De Citronnier by Serge Lutens – eau De Parfum
They light up by day and burn hot at night.
Of the entire citrus family – including the orange, mandarin orange and grapefruit trees – the lemon tree (especially the lemon blossom) best captures the magic of their fresh scent. – Serge Lutens
A few years ago while strolling through the streets of Catalunya’s coastal town Sitges, I stumbled upon a nice perfumery that had this gem in its collection. Lemon blossom is the dominating note in this wonderfully light and elegant creation by Christopher Sheldrake. I had never heard of lemon blossom but this perfume was just so mesmerizing and fresh when I applied it onto my arms. I left the shop to take a stroll and taste some tapas at the local cafes, just letting Fleurs De Citronnier sit on my skin for a while. After my lunch I decided to return to the shop to buy a bottle of this wonderful potion. Unfortunately the shop didn’t open again that day and so I waited until the next day. I just had to have this beauty! The lemon blossom is accompanied by notes of petitgrain, white honey and neroli. The base of this perfume incorporates iris, musks and styrax resin. The fragrance was released in 2004. This is completely unisex and a very bright perfume. Pure summer joy!
Just WOW! This is something I’d love to have a 1000 ml chilled bottle in my fridge for when things get really hot outside! Can I please shower in this? What I love about this creation by Jerome Epinette is that it combines fruity notes with citruses, woods and even a salty note. It has a pineapple vibe going on. Such a perfume full of life! Bal D’Afrique was launched in 2009 and according to BYREDO was “inspired by Paris in the late 1920’s and its infatuation with African culture, art, music and dance.” Combining a fresh opening of bergamot, emon, neroli, African marigold and a floral heart and a base of musk, moroccan cedar wood , vetiver and amber ; This fragrance is very wearable in hot weather and on both formal and informal occasions. Bal D’Afrique is fresh and uplifting and certainly makes you want to have a ball and dance !
All hail the queen of all flowers : The majestic tuberose ! Unlike the 4 perfumes mentioned above this is a bit of a loud perfume, it’s fierce and floral and not everyone can pull this one off. I love this, it’s one of my favorite tuberose perfumes. Created by Pierre Guillaume this is a luscious floral and bubble gum candy blended into a sensual daring perfume. Released in 2009, the fragrance features orange, green notes, jasmine, ylang-ylang, sugar cane, indian tuberose, benzoin and papyrus. This gets you noticed. Strong as it is- you’ll only need a few sprays. It’s one massive tropical party!
Wish all you boys and girls a fragrant summer!
